Met Market - Important Meeting, Wed. Nov. 15th

Full Description:

Hello, neighbors. We recently became aware of some important information. METROPOLITAN MARKET SITE UPDATE – IMPORTANT MEETING NEXT WEEK WHAT: City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) meeting about the design of the proposed development for the current site of the Metropolitan Market. WHEN: Wednesday, November 15. The meeting will start at 6 pm, and discussion about this project—the Queen Anne Place development—is scheduled to start at 7:15 pm. WHERE: Queen Anne Community Center, 1901 First Ave. W. COMMENT GUIDELINES: Comments must relate to the 1998 Design Review Guidelines for Multifamily and Commercial Buildings. These guidelines are available through the DPD Web site at http://www.seattle.gov/dpd/Planning/Design_Review_Program/Applicant_s_Toolbox/Design_Guidelines/ or from the DPD Public Resource Center. This meeting is another Early Design Guidance (EDG) meeting about Queen Anne Place. At the last EDG meeting in August, the developers and architects were told they needed to revise the loading dock design and also provide more detailed information about various alternatives. We haven't heard any details, but we understand that either a new design or a redesign will be discussed at this meeting. Attendance at previous public meetings about this development has been very good. However, WE CANNOT OVEREMPHASIZE how important it is for community members to attend this meeting. Let's make our voices heard—this is our community! All of us are concerned about what a suburban-sized development would do to our small-scale neighborhood. Concerns that we have previously related include: · A design that calls for deliveries to be made by trucks pulling into Crockett Street and backing into a delivery bay immediately next to Queen Anne Baptist Church and the school there, which is attended by hundreds of children. · Building a 35,000-sq. ft. grocery store across the street from Safeway, a similarly sized store. · Demolishing the Elfrieda Apartments, some of Queen Anne’s only remaining affordable housing. · Pedestrian safety. · A design that calls for vehicle traffic to access the site via Howe Street, a street with private homes, and also how such a large development will affect traffic throughout the upper Queen Anne neighborhood. Thanks for your support. Hope to see you at the meeting! -The QANRG Coordinating Committee
